Synopsis:
BAX/Brooklyn Arts Exchange presents Shannon Hummel/Cora Dance in The Second Decade: Choreography, Transitions and Parenthood.

"Hummel creates an affecting world. The results are enormously sophisticated. [Her] choreography quivers with subtle emotions like the writing of Virginia Woolf." -Tobi Tobias, Village Voice

"...the modern-dance version of an eloquent short-story writer...uncommonly committed performers in choreography as vivid and true as a Eudora Welty story." -Jennifer Dunning, The New York Times

Choreographer and BAX Dance Artist in Residence Shannon Hummel looks at life's transitions over the past ten years in The Second Decade. Hummel examines her first decade as a choreographer and discovers that she has created a mission statement for her life that impacts her choices as artist, mother and citizen. As she enters her second decade, she looks at creating and taking the opportunities that support her artistic work as well as her life as wife and mother, and reconciles the challenges of finding balance.

Join Hummel as she looks at excerpts of past works and a new work-in-progress and begins a conversation, facilitated by BAX Executive Director Marya Warshaw and guests, about how anyone - artist, parent or educator - acknowledges priorities and honors commitments. The evening includes performances by Kelly Bartnik, Donna Costello, Carolyn Hall, Cynthia Thompson and Hummel.
