(© Joseph Marzullo/Retna) | The Year of Magical Thinking, a one-woman play by Joan Didion based on her autobiographical book of the same title, starring Vanessa Redgrave and directed by David Hare, will have a 24-week engagement at the Booth Theatre beginning on March 6. The show's opening is slated for March 29.
The play, Didion's first, is a loose adaptation of her book about her bereavement over the death of her husband of 39 years, John Gregory Dunne, in 2003 and the subsequent death of their daughter, Quintana Roo Dunne Michael, in 2005.
The design team for the show will include Bob Crowley (sets), Ann Roth (costumes) and Jean Kalman (lighting). Scott Rudin, Roger Berlind, Daryl Roth, Debra Black, and The Shubert Organization will be the lead producers.
Redgrave won the Tony Award for her last Broadway outing, Long Day's Journey Into Night, and previously appeared on the New York stage in Orpheus Descending, The Lady of the Sea, Vita & Virginia, Anthony and Cleopatra, and Hecuba. Redgrave has starred in dozens of films and television shows; she received the Academy Award for her work in Julia and the Emmy Award for Playing for Time and If These Walls Could Talk 2. Redgrave will be seen later this month opposite Peter O'Toole in the film Venus.
