The Broadway musical The Wedding Singer will close at the Al Hirschefld Theatre on Sunday, December 31. At that time, the show will have played 30 previews and 284 performances.

Based on the popular film of the same about New Jersey wedding singer Robbie Hart, who eventually finds happiness with Julia, a local waitress, The Wedding Singer has music by Matthew Sklar, lyrics by Chad Begeulin, and a book by Begeulin and Tim Herlihy. The production is directed by John Rando with choreography by Rob Ashford.

The show received five Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical and Best Actor in a Musical for Stephen Lynch. The Wedding Singer also stars Laura Benanti, Amy Spanger, Constantine Maroulis, Kevin Cahoon, Felicia Finley, Richard H. Blake, and Rita Gardner.

In his TheaterMania review, Peter Filichia wrote: "It's a nice, lightweight show that's going to bring a great deal of pleasure to a great number of people, especially couples who are dating and are either contemplating or planning marriage."

The musical Curtains is likely to be the Hirschfeld's next tenant in the spring of 2007.

This ambitious, intense, if uneven play about a young woman dying of cancer is elevated by a first-rate design team.
