(© Joan Marcus) | Tony Award winner Kristin Chenoweth will star in the Roundabout Theatre Company's new production of the 1966 Broadway musical The Apple Tree at Studio 54, November 28-March 11. The show, to be directed by Gary Griffin, will officially open on December 14. Chenoweth and Griffin previously worked together on the show for City Center Encores in May 2005, and that production will be the basis for this presentation. Additional casting will be announced shortly.
A trilogy of one-act musicals about men, women, and temptation, The Apple Tree has music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, and a book by Bock, Harnick, and Jerome Coopersmith. The Roundabout production will feature choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler. Rob Fisher will be the musical supervisor.
The original Broadway production of the show was directed by Mike Nichols and starred Barbara Harris, Alan Alda, and Larry Blyden. Chenoweth's co-stars at City Center were Malcolm Gets and Michael Cerveris.
Chenoweth won a Tony Award for her performance as Sally in You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown and received a Tony nomination for her role of Glinda in Wicked. Her other Broadway credits include Steel Pier and Scapin. Among her extensive film and television credits are The Pink Panther, Bewitched, the soon-to-be-released Running with Scissors, and The West Wing.
