Broadway performances of the Atlantic Theater Company production of the musical Spring Awakening will begin at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre on November 17. Jeffrey Richards and Tom Frankel have joined Tom Hulce and Ira Pittelman as the show's producers. No official opening date has yet been slated.

Based on Frank Wedekind's 1891 play about teenagers coming of age in Germany, Spring Awakening has music by Duncan Sheik and book and lyrics by Steven Sater. The show is directed by Michael Mayer and features choreography by Bill T. Jones.

Alhough there has been no official casting announcement as of yet, Jonathan Groff and Lea Michele, who played the leading roles of Melchior Gabor and Wendla Bergman in the show's Off-Broadway run at the Atlantic, are expected to remain on board for the Broadway transfer. The O'Neill is currently occupied by John Doyle's acclaimed production of Sweeney Todd, which will end its run there on September 3.

This ambitious, intense, if uneven play about a young woman dying of cancer is elevated by a first-rate design team.
