Footloose

Dancing in the Aisles

By:  · Jan 5, 2000

Footloose is a very plot-driven and energetic show. It knows the point it wants to get out: one of freedom, youth and change, and, if you get nothing else out of it, you will get this. Footloose takes place in a small town in which dancing is illegal. Everything
is calm and uneventful until a teen named Ren comes from Chicago. Once there he convinces the teenagers not to put up with this rule of no dancing, saying that you shouldn't just give in to things that affect you if you feel very strongly about them, especially if there is no real reason for these rules. Although its message and plot are part of what make Footloose the show that it is, dancing also makes up a huge part of it. The dancing fits the show perfectly, it is exciting, fun and very energetic. One thing I noticed very early in the show was that the actors were having so much fun dancing--they genuinely felt the dancing and became their characters perfectly because of this. Footloose is mainly trying to appeal to teens; even so I think anyone would enjoy it. It is so full of life and really knows what it wants to say to the audience. Whether you see it for the dancing, the energy, the music or the whole show itself, it is a very good show.
