Broadway veteran James Barbour will star in the world premiere of Lizard, a musical by James J. Mellon and Scott DeTurk, at the NoHo Arts Center, July 13-September 3. The production, to be directed by Mellon, will open officially on July 21.

Based on the prize-winning 1991 novel by Dennis Covington, the show tells the story of a deformed young man, Lucius "Lizard" Sims, who sees a chance at new life when he escapes from the reformatory to join up with Callahan (to be played by Barbour), a shoe salesman who claims to be his long-lost father. Mellon and Turk previously collobarated on the musicals Dorian and The Ghost and Mrs. Muir.

The show's cast includes David Eldon as Lucius, along with Curtis C., Bryan Coffee, Laura Coyle, Melanie Ewbank, Shannon Ferreira, Janet Fontaine, Brandon Ford Green, J.R. Mangels, Bob Morrisey, Cortney Wright, and Jonathan Zenz. The creative team includes Craig Siebels (sets), Shon LeBlanc (costumes), and Luke Moyer (lighting).

Barbour's many Broadway credits include Assassins, Beauty and the Beast, Carousel, Urinetown, and Jane Eyre. He previously starred at the Noho Arts Center in The Ghost and Mrs. Muir.
