 | Nathan Lane (Photo © Joseph Marzullo) | Tony Award winner Nathan Lane will play one of the leading roles in Terrence McNally's Dedication, or the Stuff of Dreams, which is scheduled to begin a seven-week run at Primary Stages on July 26. Lane replaces Peter Frechette, who left the production due to a scheduling conflict.
The play is about a couple who run a children's theater and must decide whether to purchase a larger theater. The Primary Stages production will also star Marian Seldes, Patricia Kalember, Miriam Shor, R.E. Rodgers, and Michael Countryman, under the direction of Michael Morris.
Lane and McNally have a long personal and professional history; the actor appeared in such McNally works as The Lisbon Traviata and Love! Valour! Compassion! Lane had previously talked about the possibility of his starring in Dedication, which had its world premiere last season at the Williamstown Theater Festival.
On October 4, Lane will return to Broadway in a revival of Neil Simon's The Odd Couple opposite Matthew Broderick, his co-star in The Producers. Frechette is also scheduled to appear in that production as Roy, a poker-playing buddy of Lane's character, Oscar Madison.
