Full Cast Announced for Spring Awakening National Tour

Full casting has been announced for the national tour of the Tony Award-winning musical Spring Awakening, which will have a special pre-tour engagement at San Diego's historic Balboa Theatre, August 15-31, before officially launching at the Curran Theatre in San Francisco on September 4.

As previously announced, the show will star Kyle Riabko as Melchior and Blake Bashoff as Moritz , who come directly from the Broadway company, along with Christy Altomare as Wendla. The cast will also feature Krystina Alabado (Swing), Julie Benko (Ensemble), Todd Cerveris (Understudy Adult Men), Steffi D (Ilse), Chase Davidson (Swing), Kate Fuglei, Gabrielle Garza (Anna), Kimiko Glenn (Thea), Sarah Hunt (Martha), Anthony Lee Medina (Otto), Andy Mientus (Hanschen), Ben Moss (Ernst), Angela Reed (Adult Women), Perry Sherman (Ensemble), Matt Shingledecker (George), Claire Sparks (Ensemble), Henry Stram (Adult Men), and Lucas A. Wells (Ensemble).

Based on the 1891 Frank Wedekind play, and set against the backdrop of a repressive and provincial late 19th century Germany, Spring Awakening tells the timeless story of teenage self-discovery and budding sexuality as seen through the eyes of three teenagers. The winner of eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Spring Awakening features music by Duncan Sheik, book and lyrics by Steven Sater, direction by Michael Mayer, and choreography by Bill T. Jones. The design team includes Christine Jones (set), Susan Hilferty (costumes), Kevin Adams (lighting), and Brian Ronan (sound).

The musical will later play in Los Angeles, Seattle, Portland, Tempe, Houston, Tampa, Cleveland, Columbus, Des Moines, East Lansing, St. Louis, Louisville, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington D.C., Toronto, Boston, and Chicago.
