Olney Theatre Center Announces 2009 Season

The Olney Theatre Center has announced the production line-up for its 2009 season, which will open with the Washington-area premiere of Is He Dead? by Mark Twain, February 11-March 8, updated by David Ives. The world premiere of King of the Jews by Leslie Epstein will open at the Mulitz-Gudelsky Theatre Lab, March 18-April 19; Call of the Wild, April 8-May 3, a Jon Linsky-Bill Barclay musical based on the works of Jack London, will be directed by Clay Hopper in the Mainstage; and The Millionairess, by George Bernard Shaw, will open on the Mainstage, June 10-28, with John Going at the helm.

Jim Petosa will direct Tennessee Williams'The Glass Menagerie, June 24-July 26, at the Mulitz-Gudelsky Theatre Lab; Petosa will also direct Waste by Harley Granville Barker, August 5-30, on the Mainstage; Going will take the helm for Night Must Fall by Emlyn Williams, September 23-October 18, at the New Mainstage; and Camelot, the Alan Jay Lerner-Frederick Loewe musical will also fill the New Mainstage, November 18-January 3.

In addition to the Subscription Season, Olney presents programming from its National Players company, a Family Entertainment Series, and a new Jazz Series. Upcoming National Players productions include As You Like It and 1984 in January, and a spring tour of Lord of the Flies and Much Ado About Nothing; The Family Entertainment series will include two productions by Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia, and a third production will be announced shortly; and the four performance Jazz Series will be presented in the Mulitz-Gudelsky Theatre Lab.
