Leslie Kritzer and Michael McGrath will star in The Cape Playhouse production of Garson Kanin's Born Yesterday. Pamela Hunt will direct this 1940's comedy, to run August 18-30. Kritzer and McGrath will replace previously announced stars Jeff McCarthy and Nancy Anderson.

The show centers on a crude tycoon (McGrath) who brings his showgirl-mistress (Kritzer) to Washington D.C. where he hopes to 'buy' a few congressmen with her charms. Unfortunately, her social and intellectual ignorance becomes a hindrance to his business prospects, so he hires a journalist to give her a crash course in history, politics and literature. Properly educated and presentable, she recognizes the crook for what he is worth and falls in love with her tutor.

The cast will also include Brad Bellamy, Ross Bickell, David Furr, Michael Keyloun, and Suzanna Hay.

Kritzer recently starred on Broadway in A Catered Affair, for which she received a Drama Desk Award nomination. Other Broadway credits include Legally Blonde and Hairspray. McGrath starred earlier this summer in Cape Playhouse's A Day in Hollywood/A Night in the Ukraine. He received a Tony Award nomination and Drama Desk Award nomination for Monty Python's Spamalot and won a Theatre World Award in 1996 for Swinging on a Star.

The Cape Playhouse is currently presenting Brent Barrett, Dee Hoty, Heather Parcells, Perry Ojeda, John Scherer, and Stephanie Youell in the musical Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (July 21-August 2), about two con artists living on the French Riviera. The season will continue with the musical revue Leader of the Pack (August 4-16), starring Bridget Beirne, Laione Michelle, Chasten Harmon, Ivory McKay, and Jeremy Leiner.

Following Born Yesterday, Cape Playhouse will conclude its season with Miche Braden in the regional premiere of The Devil's Music: The Life and Blues of Bessie Smith (September 1-13), written by award-winning playwright Angelo Parra and directed by Joe Brancato.
