Award winners for the South Florida Theatre Festival were announced on May 15, at a ceremony held at Stork's Bakery & Café on Las Olas Boulevard.
TheaterMania presented the Audience Favorite Awards, which were voted on by the public during the runs of participating shows for the recently concluded festival. Winning the "Overall Audience Favorite" was Three Fittings at The Women's Theatre Project, Fort Lauderdale, while Wicked at the Broward Center was the audience favorite in Broward County, The Mission at New Theatre in Coral Gables was the audience favorite in Miami-Dade County, and Agnes of God at Palm Beach Dramaworks in West Palm Beach took the audience favorite award in Palm Beach County.
In addition, Jack Zink of the Sun-Sentinel and guiding light of the Carbonell Awards was given the Lifetime Achievement Award; producer and arts supporter Jay Harris of Boca Raton was given the Remy Pioneer Award; and Ron Levitt, of Weston, TLSF vice president and a former Assistant Secretary of State received the Remy Service Award.
The Silver Palm Awards, named for the endangered Florida native tree, were created as citations to recognize outstanding work during the Festival, and were awarded to Jim Stork of Stork's Bakery and Cafe Las Olas -- Outstanding Contribution to the South Florida Theatre Festival; WLRN -- Outstanding Contribution to the South Florida Theatre Festival; Miami-Dade Cultural Affairs Department -- Outstanding Contribution to the South Florida Theatre Festival; Doug Jones of Sixth Star Entertainment and Marketing -- Outstanding Contribution to the South Florida Theatre Festival; Naked Stage -- Outstanding New Emerging Theatre Company; Jules Tasca -- Playwright of Outstanding New Work for The Mission, New Theatre; Some Girl(s) -- Outstanding Ensemble, Mad Cat Theatre Company; From the Mississippi Delta -- Outstanding Ensemble, M Ensemble Company; Nanique Gheridi -- Outstanding Performance in Benefactors at Palm Beach Dramaworks; Eric Fabregat -- Outstanding Performance in I'm Not Rappaport at New Vista Theatre Company; Eric Fabregat -- Outstanding Performance in Dirty Story at Mosaic Theatre; Ricky Waugh -- Outstanding Performances in The Mission, New Theatre, and in Two Sisters and a Piano at The Promethean Theatre, and Tony Finstrom -- Outstanding Contribution to the South Florida Theatre Festival.
