(© Carol Rosegg) | The York Theatre Company will open up its fall season on September 3 with Stuart Ross' production of the musical Enter Laughing. The show, previously produced by the company for its Musicals in Mufti series, has a book by Joseph Stein, music and lyrics by Stan Daniels, and is based on Carl Reiner's novel.
The show tells the hilarious story of young aspiring actor David Kolowitz in 1930s New York City as he tries to free himself from overly protective parents and girlfriends, all the while struggling to meet the challenge of an immense lack of talent. The cast will be announced shortly.
Beginning on November 7, Karen Murphy and Shonn Wiley will star in Vaudeville Man!, the story of a boy born to dance and the mother who fought to keep him home, based on the life of legendary eccentric tap dancer Jack Donahue. The show originally debuted at NYMF under the title Mud Donahue and Son. Lynne Taylor-Corbett will direct and choreograph with Wiley serving as co-choreographer.
The show has a book by Jeff Hochhauser, music by Bob Johnston, and lyrics by Johnston and Hochhauser. It will have scenic design by James Morgan, costume design by David Toser, and lighting design by Jason Kantrowitz. Douglas Oberhamer will serve as musical director.
