Steppenwolf Theatre Company has announced the lineup for its 4th annual First Look Repertory of New Work at the Merle Reskin Garage Theatre, July 23-August 10. The program features three developmental productions of new plays presented in rotation and accompanied by a series of readings, lectures and events around the development of new work.
The series productions will begin with Pursued by Happiness, July 23-August 10, Keith Huff's play about a meeting between two 40-something biochemists that develops into a whirlwind romance. Jason Wells' play, Perfect Mendacity, will explore the insidious hypocrisy of government sanctioned discrimination, July 24-August 10. Finally, Fair Use by Sarah Gubbins uses a plagiarism case involving a famous author as the backdrop for a romantic comedy set in a high-powered law firm, July 25-August 10.
The design team for the series will include Debbie Baer (costumes), Kevin Depinet (sets), Joseph Fosco (sound), and Keith Parham (lights). Steppenwolf will also continue First Look 101, providing access to the new play development process leading up to the series, May 19-August 10.
