Florida Repertory Theatre Announces 2008-2009 Season

By: Tristan Fuge · Apr 15, 2008  · Florida

Florida Repertory Theatre has announced its 2008-2009 season at the Historic Arcade Theatre. The season features eight plays, three of which are regional premieres.

The season will open with Tennessee Williams' The Glass Menagerie, September 23-October 12, the story of fading Southern gentility in the wake of Depression-era realities. Garson Kanin's Born Yesterday will follow, October 24-November 16, telling a classic love story set in the midst of 1940's Washington politics. Next, A.R. Gurney's play Indian Blood, November 28-December 21, finds Eddie in hot water, and he blames his bad behavior on his restless, Native American ancestry.

The new year will open with Brian Friel's Tony Award-winning play Dancing at Lughnasa, January 9-February 1, an Irish drama full of humor, heartbreak, and hope. The Last Romance by Joe DiPietro, February 13-March 8, is an old-fashioned romance about an unlikely pair of senior citizens living out their dreams. DiPietro will also be represented this season with The Art of Murder, March 20-April 12, a whodunit style piece that centers around and eccentric painter and his underhanded art dealer.

The season will continue with Alone Together by Lawrence Roman, April 24-May 17, which explores the peace, the quiet, and the privacy that an empty nest affords a married couple. The season will close with Shirley Valentine, May 29-June 7, Willy Russell's one-woman-show about a rather ordinary middle-class English housewife.
