The American Repertory Theatre has announced its selections for the 2008-2009 season, which will run September 2008 through June 2009 at the Loeb Drama Center and Zero Arrow Theatre.
The season will begin with Anna Deavere Smith's Let Me Down Easy (September 12-October 11), the writer/performer's exploration of the resilience and vulnerability of the human body and the resourcefulness of the human spirit.
From October 18-November 9, ART will present the world premiere of Anne Washburn's The Communist Dracula Pageant, a wild and offbeat satire about the rule of the Ceausescus and the forging of a national identity, directed by Anne Kauffman.
Aurélia's Oratorio (November 28-December 28), will be a spellbinding evening of illusion and magic, where dreams come to life and the impossible happens before your very eyes, performed by Aurélia Thierrée and directed by Victoria Thierrée Chaplin.
It will be followed by Chekhov's The Seagull (January 10-February 1), the playwright's rich and tumultuous portrait of the human heart, directed by János Szász. Next up will be Samuel Beckett's spare, enigmatic, and absurdly funny masterpiece Endgame (February 14-March 15), directed by Marcus Stern.
Christine Evans' Trojan Barbie will make its world premiere, March 28-April 19. Directed by Carmel O'Reilly, the show is a reimagining of Euripides' Trojan Women with a most unlikely heroine who always looks on the bright side even as past and present collide about her.
The season will conclude with David Mamet's Romance (May 9-31), a courtroom farce that takes no prisoners in its quest for total political incorrectness, directed by Scott Zigler.
