The Culture Project's world premiere of George Packer's Betrayed, which was set to close April 13, will now play through June 28. The production, which recently picked up a Lucille Lortel nomination for Best Play, is directed by Pippin Parker.
The play is based on Packer's interviews in Iraq and other countries, and tells the story of three young Iraqis who are motivated by hope to go work for the Americans, until they begin to wonder who, if anyone, can be trusted.
The cast currently features Jeremy Beck, Aadya Bedi, Christopher Kromer, Ramsey Faragallah, Sevan Greene, and Waleed F. Zuaiter. Eric Troy Miller will replace Beck beginning April 14.
The design team includes Garin Marschall (set and lighting), Eric Shim (sound), and Rabiah Troncelliti (costumes).
Packer is a staff writer for The New Yorker and the author of The Assassins' Gate: America in Iraq, The Village of Waiting Blood of the Liberals, The Half Man, and Central Square (1998). Parker is a founding member and former Artistic Director of Naked Angels theater company. He previously worked with Culture Project as co-Artistic Director of The Democracy Project.
