(© Ian Flanders) | Theatricum Botanicum has announced the five classic plays in repertory for its upcoming summer season, as well as its singer/songwriter concert series, and other events.
The summer repertory season will open with As You Like It (June 1-September 28), William Shakespeare's romantic adventure of courtship played against a backdrop of political rivalry, banishment and exile in the Forest of Arden. Shakespeare's Macbeth will play in repertory, June 7-September 28, as well as A Midsummer Night's Dream (June 7-28 & August 7-September 1), on Theatricum Botanicum's outdoor stage. Richard Brinsley Sheridan's The School for Scandal (June 28-September 27) will take a comic look at human frailty and hypocrisy, while Eugene O'Neill's Long Day's Journey into Night (July 26-September 27) is an autobiographical examination of his home life.
Also this year, the singer/songwriter concert series will present Kenny Rankin (August 10), and Inara George (August 29); Botanicum Seedlings: A Development Series for Playwrights will present new works (June 1, 8, 15 and November 2, 9 ); Family Fundays (June 8-November 2) take place every Sunday and two Saturday mornings at 11 am; and Herta's Roundtables will bring together directors, cast members and playgoers to explore the themes, language and playwrights.
