Hartley performed on Broadway in Cabaret. Her numerous other stage credits include her autobiographical solo show If You Get to Bethlehem, You've Gone Too Far, The '60s, Sylvia, Measure for Measure, The Miser, Mrs. Warren's Profession, and Copenhagen. She has appeared in such films and television series as Ride the High Country, Peyton Place, The Incredible Hunk Married, for which she won an Emmy Award, and Law & Order: SVU.
