2008 IRNE Award Winners Are Announced

The winners of the annual IRNE (Independent Reviewers of New England) Awards were presented at 8pm on Monday, April 14 at the Boston Center for the Arts in a free ceremony.

Lyric Stage won six awards for Man of La Mancha; New Repertory Theatre's production of A Streetcar Named Desire received six awards; ART picked up a total of five awards, including its revival of No Man's Land being named Best Production of a Drama; and North Shore Music Theatre was honored with four awards, including Best Production of a Musical by a Large Theatre for Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, a co-production with New Jersey's Papermill Playhouse and Houston's Theatre Under the Stars.

The national tour of Sweeney Todd was named Best Visiting Production, and earned awards for stars Judy Kaye, Lauren Molina, and Ben Magnuson; Jeffrey Denman was named Best Actor in a Musical for Irving Berlin's White Christmas; and Cherry Jones and Caroline Stefanie Clay won acting awards for their work in the national tour of John Patrick Shanley's drama Doubt. Nilaja Sun was named Best Solo Performer for No Child.

The Huntington Theatre picked up a total of six awards for its productions of Ronan Noone's Brendan, Noel Coward's Present Laughter, including Best Ensemble (led by Victor Garber), and The 39 Steps, which earned Best Supporting Actor wins for Arnie Burton and Cliff Saunders.
