New Rep to Present My Name Is Rachel Corrie and Pieces

By: Dan Bacalzo · Jan 31, 2008  · Boston Metro

New Repertory Theatre will present two solo shows that present differing viewpoints on the Middle East conflict. Billed under the collective title, Their Voices Will Be Heard, the series includes My Name is Rachel Corrie and Pieces, to run in rotating repertory at the Arsenal Center for the Arts, March 9-30.

My Name Is Rachel Corrie, to be directed by David R. Gammons, will feature Stacy Fischer in the title role. The solo play, edited by Alan Rickman and Katharine Viner, is comprised entirely of the writings of the 23-year-old American activist who was killed by an Israeli bulldozer while defending a Palestinian home in 2003.

Pieces will be directed by Suzana Berger and will feature the author, Zohar Tirosh. Written when she was 23, Zohar documents her two years in the Israeli army. This show replaces the previously announced To Pay the Price, about Jonathan 'Yoni' Netanyahu, which will no longer be presented.

The productions will feature scenic design by David R. Gammons, costumes by Tristan Raines, and lighting by Jamie Whoolery.

New Rep will also present a collection of events titled "Artist Responses to the Israeli/Palestinian Situation" that includes two films, Promises and Knowledge is the Beginning, three staged readings, including B'Shalom by Meron Langsner, and two panel discussions addressing "What is the Role of Art in Representing the Situation?" and "Art as Documentary vs. Art as Response."
