The Steppenwolf Theatre Company has announced that due to the ongoing strike by Local One stagehands that has indefintely delayed the Broadway opening of its acclaimed production of Tracy Letts' August: Osage County at the Imperial Theatre, the production will extend its limited engagement by three weeks, with a new closing date of March 9.
"We sympathize with our talented New York Company and the many theatre fans affected by this unfortunate labor dispute," says Steppenwolf's executive director David Hawkanson in a statement. "We hope this extension will allow August to realize its full potential in New York and afford Broadway theatergoers the opportunity to experience this extraordinary production."
The show, which concerns a missing patriarch and the reunion of the Weston clan to their three-story home in rural Oklahoma, is directed by Anna D. Shapiro. It features Steppenwolf ensemble members Ian Barford, Francis Guinan, Mariann Mayberry, Amy Morton, Sally Murphy, Jeff Perry, and Rondi Reed, as well as Deanna Dunagan, Kimberly Guerrero, Fawn Johnstin, Brian Kerwin, Dennis Letts, and Troy West.
The creative team includes Todd Rosenthal (sets), Ann Wrightson (lights), Ana Kuzmanic (costumes), Richard Woodbury (sound), and David Singer (original music).
The production began previews on October 30, but performances were halted when the strike by Local One stagehands began on November 10. It was originally set to open today, November 20.
