Casting has been announced for the first reading of the Broadway-bound play Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, which is aiming for a Fall 2008 opening. The show, to be directed by Kenny Leon, will feature a script by Todd Kreidler adapted from the Oscar-winning 1967 screenplay by William Rose. The participants in the reading may or may not participate in the Broadway production.

The plot focuses on Joey Drayton, a Caucasian woman who brings her African-American fiancé, Dr. John Prentice, home to San Francisco to meet her seemingly liberal, affluent parents, Matt and Christina Drayton. Those roles will be read respectively by Gillian Jacobs, David Oyelowo, Larry Bryggman, and Blythe Danner.

The cast for the reading will also feature James Naughton as Monsignor Ryan, Leslie Uggams as Mary Prentice, Bill Nunn as John Prentice, Sr., Lynda Gravatt as Matilda "Tillie" Banks, and Leslie Hendrix as Hillary St. George.

Leon has directed the Broadway productions of Gem of the Ocean and Radio Golf, as well as the Tony Award-winning revival of A Raisin in the Sun and its upcoming ABC television film version, to air next year.
