The Off-Broadway musical Walmartopia, currently playing The Minetta Lane Theatre, will close following the evening performance on Sunday, December 30. At that time, it will have played a total of 10 previews and 136 regular performances.

Featuring a book by Catherine Capellaro with music and lyrics by Andrew Rohn, the musical satire tells the tale of a single mom and Wal-Mart employee who speaks out against her company's working conditions and finds herself and her young daughter jettisoned to 2036, into a future where Wal-Mart dominates the entire world. A previous version of the musical played last year's New York International Fringe Festival. This new production is directed by Daniel Goldstein, with choreography by Wendy Seyb.

The production stars Cheryl Freeman and Nikki M. James. The cast also includes Sarah Bolt, Bradley Dean, Stephen DeRosa, John Jellison, DeMond Nason, Andrew Polk, Pearl Sun, Scotty Watson, and Heléne Yorke. The original cast recording of Walmartopia will be released on Tuesday, December 4th.

In his review of the show for TheaterMania, David Finkle wrote, "Wal-Mart's deplorable tactics and infringements -- much exposed in the press -- are enough to explain anyone's desire to put the institution's manipulators in their place. Walmartopia isn't the way to do it, however. Bad art never helped anyone's cause."
