Chris Pine to Lead Cast of Star Trek Film

Stage and screen star Chris Pine will play Captain James Kirk in director J.J. Abrams' new film version of Star Trek, which is scheduled to be released by Paramount Pictures in December 2008.

The film will also star Zachary Quinto as Spock, Karl Urban as Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy, Simon Pegg as Scotty, John Cho as Sulu, Zoe Saldana as Uhura, Anton Yelchin as Chekhov, along with Eric Bana as the film's villain, and original Star Trek star Leonard Nimoy, who will play the older version of Spock.

Pine starred on stage in the Geffen Playhouse production of Neil LaBute's Fat Pig and the Off-Broadway production of Ronan Noone's The Atheist. His film credits include Smokin' Aces, Just My Luck, and The Princess Diaries 2. His upcoming films include Carriers and Small Town Saturday Night.

Abrams is the creator of the TV series Lost and Alias and directed Mission Impossible III.
