Passing Strange, a new musical with music and lyrics by Stew, and Heidi Rodewald, and co-created and directed by Annie Dorsen, will begin previews at Broadway's Belasco Theatre on February 8, with an official opening scheduled for February 28.

Developed at the Stanford Institute for Creativity the Arts, Berkeley Repertory Theatre, and the Public Theater, the show takes audiences on an international journey from L.A. to Amsterdam, Berlin, and beyond as a young man from California searches for his identity. It features blues, rock and roll, gospel, and pop music written by Stew and Rodewald, who head the band The Negro Problem.

Passing Strange will come to Broadway with the same cast as the Public: de'Adre Aziza, Daniel Breaker, Eisa Davis, Colman Domingo, Chad Goodridge, and Rebecca Naomi Jones. In addition to Stew and Rodewald, the on-stage band will include Christian Cassan (drums) and Jon Spurney (guitar, keyboards, musical supervision). The show's creative team includes Karole Armitage (movement coordination), David Korins (sets), Elizabeth Hope Clancy (costumes), and Kevin Adams (lighting).

In addition to the Public, the Broadway producers will be The Shubert Organization and Elizabeth Ireland McCann.
