 | | Jenny Giering | Transport Group, the winner of a special 2007 Drama Desk Award and a 2007 Obie Award, has announced that the company's 2007-2008 season at the Connelly Theatre will include two world premiere musicals: Crossing Brooklyn, with music by Jenny Giering and book and lyrics by Laura Harrington, will run October 19-November 28; and Marcy in the Galaxy, with music and lyrics by Nancy Shayne and book by Shayne and Emmy Award winner Michael Patrick King (Sex and the City), will run March 28-April 27. Both shows will be directed by Jack Cummings III, the company's artistic director. No casting has been announced.
A modern musical that deals with the emotional aftermath of September 11 in New York, Crossing Brooklyn tells the story of Des and AJ, a young, idealistic couple -- both public school teachers bent on changing the world, one kid at a time. Life is full of promise and endless possibility until Des begins to unravel under the weight of her fears, ignited from that fateful September day. Splitting apart from the pressure, they struggle to find their way back to each other.
Marcy in the Galaxy is a musical glimpse at what happens to a woman whose dream of being a New York artist takes longer to come true than she had planned. At mid-life, Marcy finds herself alone in the Galaxy Diner -- out of money and almost out of hope -- in this humorous and poignant self-examination that explores dreams, disappointment, family, first love, and delicious diner desserts.
