 | New Theatre presents Likeness

Following a busy summer entertaining audiences with its Shakespeare & Friends series, New Theatre opens its 2007-2008 Season with Likeness (September 27-October 28). The world premiere production, written by David Caudle, takes place in Colonial Boston, where an idealistic young painter is commissioned to paint a portrait of a tyrannical Loyalist's daughter. As the early rumblings of revolution rattle the studio walls, the artist struggles to find his identity and the girl struggles to protect hers.
Mosaic Theatre opens its new season with Eric Bogosian's Talk Radio (September 13-October 7), which follows controversial radio host Barry Champlain as he lambastes his callers on the night before his show goes into national syndication.
Family affairs seem to be on the front burner this month. Alliance Theatre Lab presents John Osborne's Look Back in Anger (September 20-October 3), the landmark "kitchen sink" drama about a troubled marriage. At the Studio Theatre of Wellington, Lee Blessing's Eleemosynary (September 7-15) explores the delicate relationships between three generations of independent women.
Rude Mechanical Productions presents Conor McPherson's This Lime Tree Bower (September 14-23), which shares stories of love, loyalty and regret from three Irish men in a lonely seaside town.
On the lighter side, Mount Dora Theater Company stirs up some comic mayhem with Ken Ludwig's Moon Over Buffalo (September 14-October 7), which concerns fading theater stars George and Charlotte Ha, who try to capitalize on one last chance at stardom when they discover acclaimed film director Frank Capra is coming to see their matinee.
At Sixth Star Studios, Neal Fox shares some original songs and anecdotes as he explains how a former CBS newsman put a sudden halt to his income in the ironically titled Thank You, Dan Rather (September 27-October 14).
For those in need of crafty verse: the vaughn-Rian Players take Shakespeare's Othello on tour, stopping in for two shows at the Broward Center on September 15 before moving on to the Kravis Center in October. For more of the Bard, the Orlando Shakespeare Theater presents The Comedy of Errors at the Lowndes Shakespeare Center (September 12-October 7).
Finally, there are a couple options for the kiddies this month. Sesame Street Live: Elmo Makes Music also makes stops at both the Kravis Center (September 20-23) and the Broward Center (September 28-30), while Orange Park Community Theatre presents the enchanting Rodgers and Hammerstein musical Cinderella (September 7-29).
