A special print of the film Hairspray with audience sing-along tracks will be released nationally in 100 theaters on Friday, August 3.
Along with New York and Los Angeles, locations include such diverse cities as Albuquerque, Atlanta, Boston, Las Vegas, Philadelphia, San Diego, San Francisco, and Tampa.
The film, which was directed by Adam Shankman, was released by New Line Cinema on July 20 and has grossed well over $40 million. Based on the original film by John Waters and the Broadway musical, co-written by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, Hairspray stars John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher Walken, Amanda Bynes, James Marsden, Queen Latifah, Zac Efron, Brittany Snow, Elijah Kelley, Allison Janney, and Nikki Blonsky.
