The Public Theater has announced its selections for its 2007-2008 season.
In September, Joe's Pub will once again present a series of concerts at the Delacorte Theatre, September 19-30. It will include performances by Justin Bond, David Driver Lesley Gore, Patty Griffin, Victoria Shaw, Michele Shocked, Jill Sobule, Stew, and Allen Toussaint, among others. The highlight will be three free concert performances of Hair, September 22-24, in commemoration of the musical's 40th anniversary, to be directed by Diane Paulus.
In the fall, the Public will present the Wooster Group's production of William Shakespeare's Hamlet, directed by Elizabeth LeCompte; Tarrell Alvin McCraney's The Brothers Size, which was seen earlier this year as part of the Public's Under the Radar Festival, and the New York premiere of David Henry Hwang's Yellow Face, which was produced earlier this year at L.A.'s Mark Taper Forum. The play will be directed by Leigh Silverman.
In winter, the Public will present the world premiere of Richard Nelson's Conversations in Tusculum, which chronicles those people entangled in Julius Caesar's world of manipulation and power, starring Brian Dennehy, David Strathairn, and Maria Tucci.
Next up will be the U.S. premiere of Caryl Churchill's Drunk Enough to Say I Love You?, a co-production with London's Royal Court Theatre, to be directed by James MacDonald; and Stephen Adly Guirgis' Little Flower of East Orange, a co-production with LAByrinth Theater, to be directed by Philip Seymour Hoffman.
The season will conclude with the U.S. premiere of Sam Shepard's Kicking a Dead Horse, a co-production with Dublin's Abbey Theatre. Stephen Rea will star in the play, which will be directed by Shepard.
