(© Joseph Marzullo/Retna) | The Broadway revival of Harold Pinter's The Homecoming, to be directed by Daniel Sullivan, will now begin performances at the Cort Theatre on November 23, with an official opening set for December 9.
The cast will be headed by Raul Esparza, Michael McKean, and Ian McShane. The design team will include Eugene Lee (set), Kenneth Posner (lights) and Jess Goldstein (costumes). Additional casting will be announced at a later date.
The Homecoming concerns the ultimate dysfunctional family, presided over by its patriarch Max (McShane). Living under his dilapidated roof are his younger brother Sam (McKean), and two of his sons: Lenny (Esparza), the town pimp, and Joey, a boxer-in-training. Tensions begin to flair with the arrival of Max's eldest son Teddy, who returns home after six years with his new wife Ruth. The play's Broadway premiere in 1967 won the Tony Award for Best Play.
Esparza most recently starred as Bobby in Company, for which he was nominated for a Tony and won a Drama Desk Award. He was also Tony-nominated for Taboo, and other Broadway credits include Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Rocky Horror Show, and Cabaret. McKean has appeared on Broadway in The Pajama Game, Hairspray, and Accomplice.
McShane previously appeared on Broadway in The Promise and starred in the West End production of the musical, The Witches of Eastwick. He received two Los Angeles Drama Critics' Circle Awards for Pinter's Betrayal and Inadmissible Evidence.
