The Broadway production of A Catered Affair will begin previews on March 25 at a Jujamcyn Theatre to be announced, with an official opening on April 17. The show, to be directed by Tony Award winner John Doyle, will first play San Diego's Old Globe Theatre, September 20-October 28.

The musical has a book by Tony Award-winner Harvey Fierstein and a score by John Bucchino. It is based on the film The Catered Affair, adapted by Gore Vidal from the teleplay by Paddy Chayefsky. Set in the Bronx during 1953, the musical follows a couple who must decide whether to spend their life savings on a family business or to launch their only daughter's marriage with a lavish wedding.

Joining previously announced stars Faith Prince, Tom Wopat, Harvey Fierstein and Leslie Kritzer are Philip Hoffman, Katie Klaus, Heather MacRae, Lori Wilner, and Kristine Zbornik. The role of Ralph is yet to be cast. Wopat will play Tom Hurley; Prince will star as his wife, Aggie Hurley, the mother of the bride; Fierstein will play her brother, Winston; and Kritzer will play bride-to-be Jane.

Doyle won the Tony for his revival of Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd and was nominated this year for his revival of Sondheim's Company. He has worked extensively in England and earlier this year directed the Los Angeles Opera's production of Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny starring Patti LuPone and Audra McDonald.
