(© Kathleen O'Rourke) | Jeffrey DeMunn and Chris Sarandon will headline the cast of the Westport Country Playhouse's world premiere production of David Wiltse's Sedition, to run August 2-18. The production will be directed by Tazewell Thompson, the Playhouse's artistic director.
The cast will also feature Hannah Cabell, Bryant Martin, Colin McPhillamy, and Mark Shanahan. The creative team includes Donald Eastman (sets), Ilona Somogyi (costumes), Robert Wierzel (lighting), and Fabian Obispo (sound).
The play is based on the experiences of Wiltse's grandfather, a professor of German at the University of Nebraska, who was subjected to a state defense council hearing for not taking a "sufficiently virile stance" in favor of World War I. Wiltse's other plays include Suggs, Doubles, The Good German, and A Marriage Minuet.
DeMunn received a Tony Award nomination for K2 and also starred on Broadway in Our Town, Bent, and Comedians. Sarandon's Broadway credits include Nick & Nora and The Light in the Piazza; he received an Oscar nomination for his work in Dog Day Afternoon.
