(© Joseph Marzullo/Retna) | Additional casting has been announced for At War: American Playwrights Respond to Iraq, the inaugural event of the Fire Dept's Salon Series, to be held at 6:30pm on Monday, June 25 at the National Arts Club (15 Gramercy Park South). A portion of the evening's proceeds will be donated to the Campaign for Innocent Victims in Conflict.
In addition to previously announced stars Michael Cerveris, Julianna Margulies, and David Strathairn, the cast will include Peter Sarsgaard, Paul Sparks, Jason Antoon, David Calvitto, Judith Hawking, Laura Heisler, Sal Inzerillo, Ty Jones, Haskell King, Aasif Mandvi, Audrey Rosenberg, Jonathan Schaefer, Jeremy Schwartz, and Mather Zickel.
The program, to be directed by Erica Gould, consists of original theatrical material written by playwrights such as Jose Rivera, Bathsheba Doran, Rajiv Joseph, Jessica Blank and Erik Jensen -- the latter two of whom will appear on stage -- woven together to present a kaleidoscope of views on the war in Iraq.
A post-performance discussion will feature Iraq war veteran, writer, and activist Paul Rieckhoff, Mark Crispin Miller, a noted author and professor of Media Studies at NYU, and a representative from Campaign for Innocent Victims in Conflict, which provides humanitarian aid to civilian victims in Iraq.
Upcoming events in the The Salon Series include The Theatre of Deception: Media Manipulation, Mob Consciousness, and American Politics, featuring Janeane Garofalo; Jason Grote's Box Americana; Video Games, Violence, and Digital Culture: An Evening of New Work; and Bonfire of the Vanities, composer Stefania de Kenessey's new music-theatre adaptation of Tom Wolfe's novel about race, class, and the morality of money.
