Jerry Mathers to Join Hairspray on June 5

Jerry Mathers

Jerry Mathers, who played the title role in the 1950s sitcom Leave it to Beaver, will join the Broadway cast of Hairspray as Wilbur Turnblad for a three-month run, beginning Tuesday, June 5.

Mathers played Beaver Cleaver on the popular series from 1957 to 1963. Since then, he has had guest spots on such television series as Batman, Diagnosis Murder, and The War at Home. He has also been a professional speaker on health issues.

Hairspray is directed by Jack O'Brien, with choreography by Jerry Mitchell. The show currently stars Shannon Durig, Paul C. Vogt, Jere Burns, Ashley Parker Angel, Alexa Vega, and Darlene Love.
