(© Joseph Marzullo/Retna) | Tony Award winner John Glover will replace Bob Martin as Man in Chair in the award-winning musical The Drowsy Chaperone in April. No specific date has been announced for Glover's first performance or Martin's exit. Martin is leaving the musical, which he co-wrote, to recreate the role of Man in Chair in the show's London production, which begins previews May 14 at the Novello Theatre.
Glover won the Tony for Best Featured Actor in a Play for playing the dual roles of John and James Jekyll in Terrence McNally's Love! Valour! Compassion! He was last seen in New York in Jon Robin Baitz's The Paris Letter, for which he received a Drama Desk Award nomination, and starred in the world premiere of McNally's Some Men at the Philadelphia Theatre Company. A five time Emmy Award-nominee, Glover plays the recurring role of Lionel Luthor on Smallville.
The Drowsy Chaperone won five 2006 Tony Awards, including Best Book (Bob Martin and Don McKellar) and Best Score of a Musical (Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison), and seven Drama Desk Awards, including Best Musical. It is directed by Casey Nicholaw and also stars Sutton Foster, Georgia Engel, Danny Burstein, Peter Bartlett, and Beth Leavel.
