Sigourney Weaver, Alan Alda, and More Honor A.R. Gurney at Westport Country Playhouse Gala

Playhouse trustee and former Chairman of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission Arthur Levitt was also recognized.

Westport Country Playhouse honored playwright A.R. Gurney at its one-night-only fundraising gala, A Perfect Party: A Gala Evening Honoring A.R. Gurney, on September 22. Acclaimed actress Sigourney Weaver and her husband, Jim Simpson, artistic director of The Flea Theater, hosted the event.

In addition, Playhouse trustee Arthur Levitt, former Chairman of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission, was honored with the Playhouse Leadership Award, presented to him by Alan Alda. U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal presented Levitt with a Certificate of Special Recognition.

A production in tribute to Gurney included scenes from his plays, as well as musical numbers in the Playhouse’s Jason Robards Theater. Performers included Maureen Anderman, Chris Henry Coffey, Jill Eikenberry, Keira Naughton, Jake Robards, Charles Socarides, Bobby Steggert, KT Sullivan, Richard Thomas, Jennifer Van Dyck, and the Williams College Octet.
