The Second Mrs. Wilson begins its run tonight on the Claire Tow Stage presented by Long Wharf Theatre. After marrying Woodrow Wilson, Edith Wilson finds herself in a man’s world. Surrounded by congressmen, cabinet members, and other Old Boys, she must navigate as a woman. She faces both disapproval of the love she and her husband share and their refusal to compromise. When Wilson falls ill, Edith becomes the de facto president. With effortless ease, she outmaneuvers the men who encircle her and attempt to derail her husband’s dream of peace. However, her unstinting devotion may prove to be their downfall.

The show is directed by Gordon Edelstein and written by Joe DiPietro. It features Fred Applegate as Secretary Joe Tumulty, Stephen Barker Turner as Dr. Cary Grayson, Margaret Colin as Edith Wilson, John Glover as President Woodrow Wilson, Harry Groener as Colonel Edward House, Steve Routman as Vice President Thomas Marshall, and Nick Wyman as Senator Henry Cabot Lodge.

The creative team includes Alexander Dodge (set design), Linda Cho (costume design), Christopher Akerlind (lighting design), and John Gromada (sound design and composer).

Performances will run through May 31.
