La Cage aux Folles starts tonight at Goodspeed Musicals. Based on Jean Poiret’s 1973 play of the same name, the musical centers on Georges and Albin the owner and main act, respectively, of a cabaret. When their son comes home to introduce them to his fiancée and future in-laws, their joy is tempered by a bevy of logistical concerns, not the least of which is a very conservative potential father-in-law.

With a book by Harvey Fierstein and music and lyrics by Jerry Herman, the show features James Lloyd Reynolds as Georges, Jamison Stern as Albin, Conor Ryan as Jean Michel, Kristen Martin as Anne, Cedric Leiba Jr. as Jacob, Stacey Scotte as Marie Dindon, Mark Zimmerman as Edouard Dindon, Sue Mathys as Jacqueline, and Chris Heitikko as Renaud.

The creative team includes Michael O’Flaherty (music director), Ralph Perkins (choreographer), Michael Schweikardt (set design), Michael McDonald (costume design), John Lasiter (lighting design), and Jay Hilton (sound design).

Performances will run through September 6.
