Performances of Bye Bye Birdie start tonight at Goodspeed Musicals.

After enlisting in the army, Elvis-inspired rock star Conrad Birdie plans a farewell appearance in Sweet Apple, Ohio. The event is the take of the town, but it brings about a crisis of love for Hugo and Kim, who have just started "going steady." Kim has won the chance to give Birdie his last kiss before boot camp. Set in the dawn of the '60s, the show features songs like "Bye Bye Birdie," "Put on a Happy Face," and "A Mother Doesn’t Matter Anymore."

The rock-and-roll musical features a book by Michael Stewart, music by Charles Strouse, and lyrics by Lee Adams. This production is helmed by Jenn Thompson, and choreography is provided by Patricia Wilcox. Leading the cast is Rhett Guter as Conrad Birdie, alongside Warren Kelley as Mr. MacAfee, Ben Stone-Zelman as Randolph, Tristen Buettel as Kim, Janet Dacal as Rosie, Donna English as Mrs. MacAfee, Dorcas Leung as Ursula, George Merrick as Albert, Alex Walton as Hugo, and Kirstine Zbornik as Mae Peterson.

The creative team includes Michael O’Flaherty (music director), Dan DeLange (orchestrations), Tobin Ost (set design), David Toser (costume design), Philip Rosenberg (lighting design), Jay Hilton (sound design), and Mark Adam Rampmeyer (hair and wig design).

Performances will run through September 4.
