Mary Tyler Moore will present Bernadette Peters with the Distinguished Dedication and Service to the American Musical Theater Award at the Westport Country Playhouse’s gala, Playing Our Songs: Celebrating 80 Years of Musical Theater, to be held on Monday, September 19. Moore and Peters are friends who co-founded Broadway Barks, an annual dog and cat adoption event benefiting New York City area rescue shelters.

Peters is currently starring as Sally Durant Plummer in Follies. Her other Broadway credits include Song and Dance and Annie Get Your Gun, for which she won Tony Awards, as well as George M!, Mack and Mabel, Sunday in the Park with George, Into the Woods, Gypsy, and A Little Night Music.

Moore has appeared twice on Broadway in Whose Life Is It Anyway? and Sweet Sue. She is best known for her film and television work, including Ordinary People, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, and The Dick Van Dyke Show.

In addition to the award presentation, the event will feature a retrospective of the musicals seen at the Playhouse stage since its founding in 1931.
