Nicholas Martin will direct the Westport Country Playhouse production of Somerset Maugham’s The Circle, to be presented June 7-25, 2011.

This comedy of manners is about Lord Champion-Cheney, who, many years ago, was abandoned by his wife, a legendary beauty. Now his son Arnold, a politician and rising star, is having marital problems of his own. Is history destined to repeat itself?

Martin’s Broadway directing credits include Present Laughter, Butley, Match, Hedda Gabler, The Rehearsal, and You Never Can Tell. Martin is currently in his final season as artistic director of Williamstown Theatre Festival, and is artistic director emeritus of Boston’s Huntington Theatre Company. He is a recipient of the Norton Award for Sustained Achievement.
