Jane Alexander and Stockard Channing will star in David Hare’s The Breath of Life at Westport Country Playhouse, September 29-October 17. Mark Lamos will direct.

The play is a tale of two seasoned women, whose lives are interwoven through their relationship with a pivotal, yet offstage, male character. The production team will include Michael Yeargan (set design), Robert Wierzel (lighting design), and Greg Hennigan (original music and sound design).

Alexander won a Tony for her performance in The Great White Hope and was Tony-nominated for The Sisters Rosensweig, 6 Rms Riv Vu, Find Your Way Home, First Monday in October, The Visit, and Honour. She is a four-time Oscar nominee and two-time Emmy winner. Alexander is the former chair of the National Endowment for the Arts and recently starred Off-Broadway in Chasing Manet.

Channing won a Tony Award for Joe Egg, and received additional Tony nominations for Pal Joey, The House of Blue Leaves, Six Degrees of Separation, Four Baboons Adoring the Sun, and The Lion in Winter. She won Emmy Awards for The West Wing and The Matthew Shepard Story, and was nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe when she recreated her role in the film version of Six Degrees of Separation.
