Richard Thomas to Star in A Distant Country Called Youth at Westport Country Playhouse

Richard Thomas will star in Westport Country Playhouse’s presentation of A Distant Country Called Youth, on Monday, August 29, at 7pm.

Based on a collection of lively and evocative letters written by a young Tennessee Williams, the play is is adapted by Steve Lawson, and begins as the boy Thomas Lanier Williams moves through family travails and professional rejection to his first success, and concludes with the triumphal Broadway opening of The Glass Menagerie.

The work is a part of the enhanced programming surrounding the Playhouse’s production of Tennessee Williams’ Suddenly Last Summer (August 23 – September 10). A Q&A with Thomas and Lawson, moderated by Anne Keefe, will follow the performance.

Thomas was recently seen on Broadway in David Mamet’s Race. Among his other Broadway credits are Sunrise at Campobello, Strange Interlude, The Playroom, Everything in the Garden, Fifth of July, The Front Page, Democracy, and A Naked Girl On The Appian Way. In addition, he received an Emmy Award for his work on The Waltons.
