The Yale Institute for Music Theatre has announced cast and creative teams for the three original music theatre works to be developed in two-week workshops. The pieces will be seen in a series of public readings at the Off-Broadway Theatre, to be held June 16-18.

Maren of Vardø, featuring music by Jeff Myers and libretto by Royce Vavrek, is inspired by the true story of Maren Olsdatter, a 12-year-old girl from Vardo, Norway, in 1663, who was accused of dalliances with the devil shortly after her own mother was burned at the stake. Thaddeus Strassberger will direct, with music direction by Robert Trevino. The cast will include Christopher Burchett, Cherry Duke, Helen Gabrielsen, Stephanie Joiner, Solange Merdinian, Andrew Nolan, and Lisa Williamson.

The Pregnancy Pact, with music by Julia Meinwald, book and lyrics by Gordon Leary, will be directed by Mark Brokaw, and music directed by Vadim Feichtner. In it, 15 year-old Brynn and her three best friends make a pact to become single mothers together and raise their children together in a shared dream of the perfect life. The cast will include Krystina Alabado, Bonnie Antosh, David Baghat, Andrew Durand, Eryn Murman, Libby Servais, Allie Trimm, and Remy Zaken.

The Profit of Creation, featuring music by Tim Rosser, with book and lyrics by Charlie Sohne, will be directed by Evan Yionoulis, and music directed by Chris Fenwick. The musical concerns a liberal scientist who takes a bribe from a right-wing organization to head up the “Creation Museum” in Kentucky. The cast will include Danny Binstock, Allison Fischer, Manu Narayan, Blake Segal, Christopher Shyer, and Sally Wilfert.

The readings are presented as part of the 2011 International Festival of Arts & Ideas. A reception follows each reading.
