Eugene O’Neill Theater Center Announces Selections for Young Playwrights Festival May 4-6

The Eugene O’Neill Theater Center has announced the five plays that will be developed and presented during its seventh annual Young Playwrights Festival, held May 4-6.

The selections, chosen from among 134 submissions, include Our Founding Fathers by 13-year-old Kelly O’Connor, Explanations by 17-year-old Emily Patten, Thirty Years Young by 17-year-old Tiffany Avallone, Dayton’s Saxophone by 16-year-old Matthew Alfultis, and Happy as a Clam by 16-year-old Lisa Mueller.

These playwrights will develop their work over two days with professional directors, dramaturgs, and actors, all alumni of the O’Neill’s National Theater Institute. The festival will culminate in a free reading of each play on May 6 at the Dina Merrill Theater.

Additionally, young playwrights Dylan Abate, Daron Chandler, Renee Harms, Emily Harper, Julia Little, Jeannette Mooney, Andrew Pedro, Nulin Phrommavanh, Ashley Roselund, Yvonne Sadinsky, Molly Young, and Bowei Zhao will participate in the two-day Guest Playwright Observation Program.
