Tresnjak was the artistic director of the Old Globe Shakespeare Festival in San Diego from 2004 to 2009. His credits with that company include Cyrano de Bergerac, Coriolanus, The Women, The Pleasure of His Company, All’s Well That Ends Well, and Hamlet, among others.

In New York, his work has been seen at the Public Theater and Theatre for a New Audience, and among his regional credits are productions at Williamstown Theatre Festival, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Goodspeed Musicals, Vineyard Theatre Company, and Blue Light Theater Company, as well as the Huntington Theatre Company, where he was director-in-residence from 2002-2004.

Among his current projects is Titus Andronicus at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Canada, which he will both direct and design. In addition, as previously announced, he is scheduled to direct Bell, Book and Candle at Hartford Stage in the coming season.

Tresnjak has also directed for opera, most recently Der Zwerg, Der Zerbrochene Krug, and Die Vögel. In addition, his work has been seen at Opera Theater of Saint Louis, Florida Grand Opera, Sarasota Opera, and Virginia Opera.
