Heidi Armbruster (Time Stands Still), Chris Henry Coffey (Water by the Spoonful), Keira Naughton (The Rivals), Jake Robards (Our Town), Charles Socarides (Awake and Sing!), and Jennifer Van Dyck (Hedda Gabler) are set to appear in season-opener play at the Westport Country Playhouse, A.R. Gurney's The Dining Room. The production will play April 30-May 18, with direction by Mark Lamos (Our Country's Good).
The Dining Room is made up of a series of vignettes, each introducing a new set of people and events, all of which take place in the dining room of a typical well-to-do household. The actors play different and varied characters in each scene, all of which are interrelated.
The production's design team includes set design by Michael Yeargan, costume design by Jane Greenwood, lighting design by Stephen Strawbridge, and sound design by John Gromada.
In a statement, director Mark Lamos said of The Dining Room, "Its sweetly observed, occasionally tart observations of life among a dying breed known as white Anglo-Saxon protestants has entertained smart audiences for thirty years."
