Jo Bonney, Paul Giamatti, Sarah Ruhl Set for Yale Repertory Theatre’s 2012-2013 Season
Yale Repertory Theatre has announced plans for its 2012-2013 season.
The season will open with Richard Montoya’s irreverent play about stereotypes and truth, American Night: The Ballad of Juan José (September 21-October 13), developed by Culture Clash and Jo Bonney. Next, the theater will present the recently reported co-production with American Repertory Theater of the world premiere of David Adjmi’s Marie Antoinette (October 26-November 17). Directed by Rebecca Taichman, Marie Antoinette, focuses on the French queen who must watch as gossip turns to revolt. The season will continue with the world premiere of Sarah Ruhl’s Dear Elizabeth (November 30-December 22), which chronicles the 30-year friendship of poets Elizabeth Bishop and Robert Lowell, directed by Les Waters.
Yale Repertory Theatre will begin the new year with Marie Jones’ Stones in His Pockets, a comedy about an Irish village whose life is disrupted by an American film crew. Evan Yionoulis will direct. Then, James Bundy will direct Academy Award-nominated actor Paul Giamatti in the Shakespearean tragedy Hamlet (March 15-April 13). To bring the season to a close, Robert Woodruff will direct a world premiere adaptation by Bill Camp and Robert Woodruff of Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s In a Year with 13 Moons (April 26-May 18), in which Erwin turns himself into Elvira in order to please the object of his affection.
