Gerald Freedman to Direct Westport Country Playhouse’s Diary of Anne Frank

Gerald Freedman will direct Westport Country Playhouse‘s production of The Diary of Anne Frank, September 28-October 16. The play, by Francis Goodrich and Albert Hackett, is being presented in an adaptation by Wendy Kesselman.

The Playhouse’s 2010 lineup will also include the musical comedy, She Loves Me (April 20-May 8), directed by Mark Lamos; Donald Margulies’ Dinner with Friends (June 1-19),directed by David Kennedy; Samuel Beckett’s Happy Days (July 6-24), directed by Lamos; and the musical I Do! I Do! (August 10-28).

Freedman’s Broadway directing credits include the 1964 and 1980 revivals of West Side Story, Arthur Miller’s The Creation of the World and Other Business (1972), the 1975 and 1976 productions of The Robber Bridegroom, both of which garnered him Drama Desk Award nominations as Outstanding Director of a Musical, The Grand Tour (1979) with Joel Grey, and The School for Scandal (1995) with Tony Randall. He currently serves as Dean of Drama at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts.
